Squads
Gawler Squads & Criteria
To move between squads, swimmers must be achieving all their current squads criteria as well as the squads criteria they wish to
enter. Whether or not a swimmer is meeting the required criteria is up to the discretion their squads coach with input form the head
coach. Swimmers will have the opportunity to transition between squads following goal setting and performance review sessions
held every two months. If a swimmer is not currently meeting the criteria for their squad, they may be asked to spend time in a
lower squad until the coaches are satisfied they can meet the required criteria.
Juniors:
For a swimmer to be accepted into the Junior squad they must:
o Be comfortable and confident in the water.
o Have a positive attitude towards swimming.
o Be enthusiastic about developing and understanding competitive swimming skills and technique.
o Be able to monitor your own behaviour.
o Be able to swim at least 50m of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breastroke with a reasonable a degree of proficiency.
Intermediates:
For a swimmer to be accepted into the Intermediate squad they must:
o Be currently meeting all the criteria to be in the Junior squad.
o Must be able to train under any coach with an identical level of respect and co-operation.
o Be able to swim 100m of Backstroke and Breastroke to a competition standard.
o Be able to swim 200m of Freestyle to a competition standard.
o Be able to perform all turns to a competition standard.
o Be attending at least 1 training session per week on a regular basis.
o Have attended at least one swimming carnival with the club.
Seniors:
For a swimmer to be accepted into the senior squad they must:
o Be currently meeting all the criteria to be in the Intermediate squad.
o Be attending at least 2 training sessions per week on a regular basis.
o Must not have had any behavioural incidents involving the club in the last 2 months.
o Must be able to train under any coach with an identical level of respect and co-operation.
o Be able to swim 1000m of Freestyle to a high competition standard.
o Be able to swim 50m of Butterfly to a competition standard.
o Be doing competition standard turns at every wall.
o Be at training and in the water on time every time.
o Demonstrate acceptable lane etiquette.
o Be confident and competent in reading the clock and swimming on time cycles.
o Attend carnivals regularly, (If nominated as a competitive member).
o Continuously act as great role model for younger swimmers.
o Be able to, (and continue to) hold the following time cycles comfortably:
8 x 50 Freestyle on 60
6 x 100 Freestyle on 2:00
6 x 50 Backstroke on 1:10
4 x 50 Breastroke on 1:20
6 x 25 Butterfly on 50
